AfghanistanIn coordination with GIZ and other international development cooperation actors, CIM concentrates in Afghanistan on the development policy priority areas agreed between Afghanistan and Germany. These are:
CIM is seeking to intensify future cooperation in all four priority areas. Special emphasis, however, is being given to stepping up economic reforms. CIM is also working hard in Afghanistan to promote the development and implementation of investment projects. For example, in Baghlan Province in northern Afghanistan, CIM is supporting the rehabilitation of a sugar factory within the framework of a public-private partnership project with a German private enterprise. In response to the request of partners with special development policy relevance, CIM has also launched activities in Afghanistan’s media sector, which plays a central role in the social transformation of the country. In cooperation with German state radio and TV broadcasters, CIM is supporting the establishment of Afghan radio and TV stations. Here CIM makes use of its scope to act outside development policy priority areas. With the Returning Experts Programme, CIM also supports Afghan experts who wish to return to Afghanistan after studying, undertaking vocational training or working in Germany.
