Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia

The Soviet Union’s successor states, along with the former socialist states of Central and South-Eastern Europe, are now in a difficult process of social and economic transition. The restructuring of state, economy and society and the introduction and maintenance of market-oriented, democratic principles and rule of law are the core of national reform policy. At the fore in South-Eastern Europe are the surmounting of the cross-boundary conflicts of the past and the political and economic stabilisation of the countries there.

Work is proceeding apace on internal reforms and regional cooperation, with the prospect of EU accession in mind.

CIM’s most important activity areas in Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia are:

  • economic promotion, development of the market system, vocational training
  • democracy, public administration, civil society, peace-keeping
  • education.
