ChinaCIM’s strategic activities in China take place mainly in the development policy priority areas agreed between China and Germany. These areas are:
The priority areas of CIM’s activities in China are environmental protection and conservation of natural resources, and economic reform. CIM is working to intensify future cooperation, especially in supporting financial reform. In response to the request of partners with special development policy relevance, CIM has also been active in politically sensitive areas in China. It supports the difficult work of non-governmental organisations, which are subject to tight state control in China. CIM is also engaged in enhancing the rights and political maturity of the civil society, for example, by calling for greater citizen participation. Here CIM makes use of its scope to act outside development policy priority areas. GIZ supports CIM in the implementation of its programmes on the ground and cooperates closely with CIM experts; for example, in the sectors and programmes:
In the Returning Experts Programme, CIM also supports, as it has for years, numerous Chinese experts returning to China after studying, undertaking vocational training or working in Germany.
