Dynamic and forward-looking: helping shape Morocco’s future with the right expertise

The Moroccan economy has shown signs of positive growth in recent years. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the construction, infrastructure and energy sectors. Moroccans living abroad can also benefit from these encouraging developments.

Springboard for new markets

Morocco’s stability and forward-looking approach make it one of the most attractive places to do business in Africa at the moment. Increased foreign direct investment is just one indicator of how much Morocco’s economic climate has improved in recent years. Many international companies now use Morocco as a springboard for investing in other African markets, particularly in West and Central Africa.

Business start-ups – a success story

Around one in ten Moroccans live outside Morocco. In Germany alone, more than 150,000 people are of Moroccan origin. Many of them have studied or worked in Germany, including many engineers whose skills are in great demand in both Germany and Morocco. One such person is Farid El-Houzia.

Strong demand for technical expertise ‘made in Germany’

The energy, infrastructure and automotive sectors are currently the most promising sectors for business start-ups in Morocco.
With the steady rise in Morocco’s energy requirements comes growing pressure to generate energy from local sources rather than pay high prices to import it from other countries. The Moroccan Government has set the ambitious goal of meeting 42% of the country’s energy needs from renewable sources by 2020. Here, too, Morocco is playing a pioneering role in Africa. Demand for German technological expertise is correspondingly high, and in turn this creates business opportunities for specialists such as technology consultants, plant engineers and project managers. In the automotive and automotive supplies industry, too, experienced engineers with good technical knowledge and a sound business idea stand a good chance of being able to set up a successful business.
